The Fraser Coast region is located in South East Queensland, just north of the Sunshine Coast, and south of the Bundaberg North Burnett region. The Fraser Coast is approximately 3 hours drive north of Brisbane, and is home to the World Heritage listed Fraser Island, Lady Elliot Island, the UNESCO recognised Great Sandy Biosphere, marine parks, wetlands, ancient rainforests, a stunning coastline of pristine, white sandy beaches and the best Whale Encounters experience in the world.

Hervey Bay

Hervey Bay is an irresistible nature-based adventure playground. It’s the gateway to world heritage listed Fraser island and one of the best places in the world to get up close and personal with humpback whales. The calm stinger-free waterways and endless stretches of white sandy beaches of Hervey Bay and the nearby seaside villages of Toogoom and Burrum Heads are perfect for year round swimming, boating and fishing.

Dotted along Hervey Bay’s picturesque esplanade are alfresco cafés and restaurants, shops, parks, piers and a vibrant marina – all with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Fraser Island.

Settled in 1847, Maryborough is one of Queensland’s oldest cities and was one of the busiest immigration ports in Australia in the second half of the 1880s.

With such a rich history, the city offers many impressive hertiage experiences. The original port district is now a hertiage precinct with gloriously preserved colonial buildings, sensational riverside parks, outstanding museums, historic pubs, steam trains and river cruises.

Maryborough also has a unique connection to Mary Poppins as the birthplace of her creator, author Pamela Travers.

Tiaro and its surrounding area is rich with native flora and fauna, natural beauty and genuine attractions. Platypus play in secluded creeks and rare and protected species such as the lungfish, Mary River Turtle and huge Mary River cod are found in the Mary River.

Some of the best ways to experience the bush are off the beaten track – on horseback or bush walking, mountain bike riding, four-wheel driving and dirt biking. The beautiful Mary River winds her way through the region – and the opportunities for exploring are endless – as are the experiences, including camping and fishing, canoeing, bird watching and orienteering.

Burrum Heads and Toogoom

A short drive from Hervey Bay, the picturesque fishing villages of Burrum Heads and Toogoom offer kilometres of unspoilt beachfront.

Stroll along soft, sandy beaches, collect fascinating shells, explore rivers and creeks by boat or canoe or just sit and watch the pelicans or some of the other 90 species of bird life that inhabit the area.
